Three Records on Watch for 2025
Aaron Judge Triple Crown & .400 Watch
Aaron Judge has been one of the best players of a generation and seems to be getting better. Coming off his second MVP in the last three seasons he is following it up with one of the best first halves of baseball in a long time. A career .294 hitter he showed last year in his MVP campaign that is not just a home run merchant. He hit .322 last year with a 1.159 OPS both the highest marks of his career.
He is crushing those numbers this year. The first few months into his age 33 season he is proving he is not slowing down anytime soon, much to the dismay of the American League. What he is doing this season it seems is somewhat being overlooked with a lot of other storylines going on around the league, but people need to take notice on what this guy is on pace for this season.
He is on pace for historically great numbers that would put him in a group along the best hitters in the 100-plus year of major league baseball. He is on pace for a second 60 home run season which only Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa have accomplished. Sitting at 21 HR’s right now and in 2022 when he hit 62 he only had 19 by June 3rd. So already on pace to beat his own record which also currently sits as the all-time AL record.
The big number on the radar with Judge right now though has to 400. Piling up hits this season is way ahead as the league leader in batting average by leading the next guy by .40 points! Absurd numbers! Judge is not the first player to be flirting with the .400 avg in June and I get it is still very early in the season, but Judge just seems to be head and shoulders above everyone else in the AL right now this no end in sight to the heights he could reach in the 2025 season.
As of June 3rd, Judge is 1st in avg. (.391) 2nd in HR (21) and 2nd in RBI (50). Let’s just keep our eyes on Judges numbers the rest of the season, we could see something special.
Shohei Ohtani 60-60 Season Watch
Shohei Ohtani continues to amaze the baseball world with things we have never seen before. Of course, he started his career pitching and hitting at an elite level which no one alive has ever seen. Last year he took the year off of pitching to recover and what did he do to make up for it? He gave us the first 50-50 season in MLB history. With 50 home runs and 50 steals in a single season he left the five players that have reached 40-40 in his dust.
Just when you think he could not possibly give us any more he does just that. He, as no surprise to anyone, leads the MLB in homers with 23 at the start of June. Currently on pace to hit 59 dingers. All he needs is a hot week with a few multi-homer games and he can see that number rise to over 60 for the first time in his career. His stolen bases are down a little from last season when he finished with 59 but only by a couple! By this time last season, he had 13 stolen bases compared to the 11 he has right now. Again, all he needs is to pick up that pace a little for the rest of the season and we could potentially be looking at MLB’s first 60-60 season! with everything we have seen Ohtani do I don’t think anyone would bet against him.
Bonus record watch: 40-40-40 Season! If Ohtani comes back to pitch for the Dodgers this season there’s potentially a chance, we could see him go for 40 HR, 40 SB, and 40 strikeouts!
Rockies Worst Team Ever Watch
Colorado Rockies baseball, ew. The product that this team is putting on the field is a travesty to baseball. The whole organization should be ashamed, and the owner should sell the team and relieve this fan base out of this hell. I thought i had it bad as a Red Sox fan because my team was underachieving. If i was a Rockies fan I think I would have to just give up on being a baseball fan for my own sanity. They now have 12 as we turn the calendar to June coming off of actually sweeping the sorry Marlins. 12 is the lowest of all time at this point in a season, way behind the record breaking White Sox team from a year ago who already had 15 wins by this time. Colorado does not deserve one second of attention or recognition this season but will continue to get it because like the train wreck that they are, I cant look away.
