It is times like these that I wish I was not a sports fan. Why couldn’t I have been into other things growing up. Like art, or science, or…. I don’t know, those are the only things I can think of that aren’t sports. Do I regret it? I must say, not living and dying with every game, every pitch, every at bat sounds like a much more peaceful life, it is just not the life for me. Like the great Tupac Shakur said, “I didn’t choose this life, this life chose me.”
Now don’t get me wrong, being a Red Sox fan has brought countless joy into my life. Going to Fenway Park is on most people’s bucket list of things to do in their lifetime. I’ve gotten to experience it my whole life. I’ve gotten to watch hall of fame players and World Series victories. But those days seem like a lifetime ago at this point. This new Red Sox front office seems to forget those days or possibly don’t care about them at all. It seems like they know that no matter what happens with this team, the Red Sox will always be popular, and Red Sox nation will continue to show up and watch. So, is that true?
I would say unfortunately yes. I can get up on a soap box and yell and bitch about this team for hours, but am I ever going to stop watching? Hell no. The Red Sox taught me what unconditional love is. This is also how sports works, you have your team, and you don’t switch up, ever. Everyone hears the radio callers saying they’ll never watch again, and maybe they won’t, but I just will never be able to do it.
With all that being said, if there is a year that is going to make me quit it is the 2025 Red Sox. Not because of the players we have but because of this clown show we have going on in the front offices. There have been general managers that have done less than Breslow but I can’t remember one who was as hated. No wonder he was John Henry’s tenth choice when it came to hiring a GM. Maybe Breslow has made some brutal moves, and he’s also made some good moves, but he is so unlikeable as a guy it doesn’t matter, he will never win over the fan base.
🍻 Red Sox nation respects guys they feel like they can sit down and have a beer with. Terry Francona, Jason Varitek, Trot Nixon, the dirt dog Dustin Pedroia, even Theo Epstein has that side to him. John Henry looks like the type of guy that dabs his pizza with napkins to take some of the grease off. Sam Kennedy looks like he would walk right past a dog without even petting it. Craig Breslow looks like he goes to an ice cream shop and backs up the line sampling all the flavors just to order a vanilla cone in the end. Complete and total stiffs all of them. Only don’t call Breslow that or he’ll have you fired.
It is time for everything to change. We all know John Henry is not going anywhere, and everyone wants Theo to take over. We need that to happen asap. Kennedy and Breslow need to go! People have been asking about being buyers or sellers, I want to be sellers with the staff and buyers with the roster. We still have an all-star caliber roster that is one move and a hot month away from being a contender. I sadly believe that.
Theo has been a savior time and time again for franchises and we need his help again. Put up the bat signal and have Boston’s superhero Theo Epstein answer the call. Make him CEO make him GM make him whatever the fuck you need to make him but do it now!
I hear people saying they can’t fire Breslow because it was hard for them to find a GM in the first place. And if they fire another head of operations after three years like they did to Bloom before him, will people be afraid to come take the job here? I hate that logic! Let’s keep a guy in charge that shouldn’t be to make ourselves look better. I don’t want to hear that. If the guy isn’t the right guy, then move on and find the right guy and guess what, Breslow isn’t the right guy!
Now for the coach. I have always been a Cora guy. I thought the team really liked playing for him in 2018 and he had a lot of respect in the locker room. And you know what, I still think that was true. The problem now is with the Raffy trade no one from 2018 remains on the team. This is no longer Cora’s ‘team’, and I think it is evident in the play on the field. We have a young team now and I don’t know if Cora has a rebuild in him at this point. It is time for a new voice in the locker room and new structure to how the Red Sox play and approach baseball games.
Some people believe we need an older experienced manager with some structure that can whip these young kids into shape and show them how MLB baseball is played. I agree, but I also love having a coach with lineage to the Red Sox and I would love to see David Ross back in Boston this time in a managerial role. He was a great leader for the young Cubs stars that won the World Series. He was a great leader in the locker room for the Sox 2013 championship team and would know what it takes to win in this city.
Red Sox nation is not going anywhere. That is clear. What is also clear is we expect nothing but the very best. We need the front office and the coaching staff to take that same passion and produce winning baseball for a starving franchise that is currently amidst the longest world series drought for the organization since winning in 2004.
Somone go find John Henry somewhere galivanting around Europe with all his shiny new futbol toys and tell him to do the hokey-pokey and turn this thing around!
The idea is to always be a smart shopper and if you are unsatisfied with a product you no longer support it.
