Series Recap š
A disappointing series vs the Houston Astros have taken the Red Sox out of the first wild card position. Now we sit a game and a half back of Seattle and a game and a half up on the Yankees who currently hold the third and final Wild card spot. With a big series vs the Miami Marlins coming up, the team needs to show consistency to get back a top the wild card standings
GAME 1 š„“
Game one proved something a lot of Red Sox nation had been nervous about. It proved we canāt afford loses on Garret Crochet starts. He has been keeping our heads above water all season. Especially when he starts a series off because it makes us all feel like the first game will be a win and now we just have to worry about splitting the other two. When that doesnāt happen and Crochet gets a loss, the odds of us winning that series drop drastically and every fan feels it. Especially since they skipped his last start, instead of Giolito and Bello following him to pick him up when he rarely does fall now looking forward to May and Buehler, the outlook was grim.
So Crochet has his worst start of the season which did not come until August so even after a bad start thereās nothing to complain about when it comes to our ace. The Sox did put together a late rally to at least make the game interesting. Although bad base running, bad defense, and bad pitching reared its ugly head again and the Sox dropped the opener 7-6.
GAME 2 šŗš»
Game two rocked. Anytime you can see 14 runs on the board and everyone in the starting lineup getting a hit youāre in for a fun game. Then throw on a great Dustin May performance and first win in a Red Sox uniform as the cherry on top, and it makes staying up late with these Texas starts worth it.
May was the story of the game going six scoreless innings, striking out 8 and getting 12 swing and misses on the day. He looked confident on the mound and was really feeling his pitches, walking off strikeouts and getting emotional after innings would end. It was everything you want to see out of a new acquisition that you hope can help you in the playoffs. No one can say confidently right now that this is going to be the Dustin May weāre going to get every game, but itās intriguing to see.
Also shoutout to Roman Anthony drawing 4 walks (shouldāve been 5) and scoring 4 runs in the game Tuesday night. His plate discipline is at a veteran all star level already at 21 years old
GAME 3 š«£
Game 3 was a tough one to swallow. It is hard to feel good going into a Walker Buehler start to begin with, but when the series is riding on him it never feels good. Although Buehler did not pitch bad he also didnāt pitch good enough to win. Giving up two homers to the Astros was all they needed having their ace Hunter Brown on the mound who didnāt have his best stuff but still only let one run scrape across the plate despite giving up two more hits than Buehler did.
The Sox couldnāt get a hit when they needed to and only cashed in on one of 10 chances with runners in scoring position. P U. You will almost never win a game with leaving that many ducks on the pound. The lineup didnāt do anything and Walker Buehler didnāt do enough and the Sox dropped the rubber match 4-1 and lost the series to the Houston Astros.
LOOKING AHEAD š
The Red Sox will now come home Friday to start a series with the Miami Marlins who have been surging lately. Although still a below .500 team the Red Sox need to win this series. With about 40 or so games remaining the Red Sox have a relatively easy schedule the rest of the way outside of a couple series most of the teams we will see the rest of the way are not playoff teams. The team needs to take advantage the the last month and a half of the season and really take a stranglehold of the wild card race. If they can win the seriesā they need to win and have a winning streak going when we play the Blue Jays at the end of September that series could very well decide the AL East.
With the probable starters for the Marlins series being Giolito, Bello, and Crochet when all three of them are coming off of loses I feel very confident they all get back on track. Knowing that, and how good this team plays at home, I predict a series sweep of the Miami Marlins. Go Sox!
Great recap Doug , thanks. Letās hope they get back on track, like we know they can. I still have hope they win first place in ALE. Go Sox !
