š The Sox came out of the break with a disappointing two games where they couldnāt get the bats going. Thatās when you need to turn your ball to your ace and trust him to win you a game and stop the bleeding. Thatās why you go trade for a guy like Garrett Crochet and sign him to a long-term deal.
š· After dropping the first two games at legendary Wrigley Field, Crochet pitched another gem giving up only one run through 6 innings. Even without having his best outing, giving up 8 hits and 2 walks, he always seems to keep the runs off the board. After winning 10 games in a row and having the city buzzinā, getting swept by the Cubbies would have brought a lot of those high hopes right back down.
š¶ To give a shoutout to the Lumineers who I saw put on a fantastic show in a sold-out Fenway Park Friday night, Garret Crochet is the Red Sox āDead Seaā because he always keeps them afloat. š¶
ā The win Sunday gives Crochet a record of 11-4. Heās posting a 2.19 ERA and leads the league in strikeouts. If you look up ace in the dictionary, youāre going to find his face next to it. Numbers we havenāt seen in a Red Sox uniform since the goat Pedro Martinez was in Beantown. With him being there to steady the ship every 5 days and if the bats continue to keep us in games, I still really like this team going forward in the second half.
š Add 3 homers today to a great Crochet game and that is a classic Boston Red Sox formula to winning a baseball game. Two bombs for Abreu in back-to-back innings who remains hot giving him 20 jacks now on the season. Also, one of the most electric plays you can see in baseball, a pinch-hit home run by the team leader and always dependable Alex Bregman. His 3-run blast in the 8th gave the team the insurance runs they needed to cruise to a victory.
ā¾ Even though we lost the series 2-1, winning the series finale always feels better than any other 2-1 outcome. It gives us some momentum going into Philadelphia. Philly just dropped two out of three against the Angels but must be licking their chops looking at the pitching matchup in game one of the series. Itās time for them to turn to their ace and give the ball to Zack Wheeler while the Red Sox have Walker Buehler taking the hill. Game one looks like a loss but if we can leave Citizen Bank Park with a 2-1 series win and come back to Boston getting ready for the Dodgers will put us in a good spot to win a huge series in a potential World Series matchup.
